UK academic accounting programmes

Accounting, taxation and payroll taught to UK academic standards, with certification described exactly as it is.

Academic structure

Accounting, taxation and payroll to UK academic standards

An academic programme is not simply a longer course. It has published learning objectives, a syllabus that has been mapped and reviewed, assessment that can fail as well as pass, and a certificate whose wording is defensible. That is the standard our programmes are built to, and it is what our UK base exists to protect.

Programmes are grouped into four families. Each one names its guided learning hours, its assessment method and its certificate on the course page, before you enrol.

Professional accounting study texts for financial accounting, management accounting and taxation

Certificate programmes

Shorter programmes covering a single subject to a defined standard. Typically 24–30 guided learning hours, assessed by a practical case study.

Professional programmes

Longer programmes designed around career development, combining technical depth with the professional skills that determine promotion.

Includes: Professional Accountant Development Programme

Advanced programmes

Higher-level accounting, tax and payroll learning for practitioners who already work to a professional standard.

Includes: Financial Statement Preparation, UK Taxation Principles

Specialist programmes

Focused subjects for professionals who need depth in one area rather than breadth across several.

Includes: Corporate Tax Essentials, Payroll Management & Compliance, Computerised Bookkeeping & Reconciliation

Certification

What each certificate is, and what it is not

Certification is where training providers in this market most often overstate. We would rather be plain about it, because a learner who discovers the truth after paying is a learner we have lost permanently.

IHM does not use the phrase “UK university certified” on any course, and does not display an institution's logo without written permission. Where a university partnership applies to your programme, you will be told the institution's name, the award, who assesses it, how long it takes and how it can be verified — in writing, before payment.
The academic pathway

How the pathway works

  1. Enrol on an eligible programme

Eligible programmes are marked on their course page. Not every course carries an academic pathway.

  2. Complete the assessed work

Academic-pathway assessment is heavier than a completion assessment, because it has to satisfy an external standard.

  3. Receive your IHM certificate

Issued on completion regardless of whether you continue on the pathway.

  4. Progress to the partner award

Where a formal agreement is in place, your assessed work is carried forward towards the partner institution's award under that agreement's terms.

Questions we are asked

Certification questions

Is my certificate recognised in the UAE or Saudi Arabia?

Recognition depends on who is doing the recognising. Employers across the GCC accept our certificates as evidence of assessed training. Formal governmental attestation is a separate process that varies by country, and we will tell you honestly whether it applies to your programme before you enrol.

Can I put this on my CV as a UK qualification?

You can state accurately what you hold: the certificate title, the issuing body, the guided learning hours and the assessment. If your programme carries a partner award, you can state that award too. What you should not do is describe a Certificate of Completion as a degree or a professional membership, and we will never encourage you to.

Does this replace ACCA, CIMA or ICAEW?

No, and it is not intended to. Professional membership comes from those bodies alone. Our programmes build the underlying knowledge, and many of our learners study with us alongside or ahead of professional examinations.

How can an employer verify my certificate?

Every certificate carries a unique reference. An employer can email support@ihmaccountant.com with that reference and we confirm the holder, the programme and the completion date.
