Most people who have to act on financial information were never taught to read it. Department heads sign off budgets they do not fully understand, managers are handed variance reports they cannot interrogate, and business owners rely on an accountant's summary because the accounts themselves are opaque. This programme fixes that. It teaches the language and the logic of financial statements to intelligent people who have no intention of becoming accountants, using plain English and worked examples from real trading businesses. Nobody is asked to post a journal entry.
Who this course is for
- Department heads and operational managers with budget responsibility
- Business owners and directors who rely on someone else to read the accounts
- Sales, HR, marketing and engineering professionals moving into leadership
- Board members, trustees and non-executive directors
- Anyone who has to defend a number they did not prepare
Learning objectives
By the end of the programme learners will be able to:
- Read a set of financial statements and say what they mean in plain language
- Distinguish profit from cash, and understand why a profitable business can fail
- Interpret a budget and challenge a variance report intelligently
- Use the handful of ratios that actually matter to a manager
- Ask an accountant the right questions and understand the answer
